About the event
The Darien Library's "Novel Tea" event on October 16 will welcome author Ariel Lawhon for a discussion of her book Frozen River. The Library has kindly invited the Mather Homestead to host a book discussion given the relevance of our home to the time period. Typical of the times, the Mather Homestead, built in 1778, has a "borning room" which was used when babies were born (Sarah Mather bore 11!) or when someone was ill as, of course, there were no hospitals. What there were, was midwives!! Frozen River takes the reader on a journey into the life of one such midwife named Martha Ballard. Please shop local for your copy of Frozen River!
