We are very excited that Ranger Doug will be in town!
Former park ranger Douglas Leen will discuss the early history of the National Park Service - particularly during Horace Albright's and Arno Cammerer's terms, and discuss his new book Ranger of the Lost Art—Rediscovering the WPA Poster Art of our National Parks. Fifty years of searching, 30 years of research and three years of writing is now between two covers—224 pages with over 400 illustrations, with foreword by Douglas Brinkley. Douglas Leen worked in Grand Teton National Park for 7 seasons in the 1970s—at the Jenny Lake Ranger Station. He discovered an old poster in a barn during a park clean-up day and has spent much of his life researching these rare prints. He left the park service in 1976 for a career in dentistry—first 20 years in private practice and another 20 years in public health in rural Alaska. Now retired, Doug is currently on a book tour around the country. He spends summers in Alaska and winters in Tucson, Arizona.
