About the event
Teddy Roosevelt‘s birthplace, a townhouse at 28 E. 20th St. in New York, is a National Historic Site, one of the 430 sites in the National Park System. The house had originally stood on the site was built in 1848 and bought by the Roosevelts in 1854. Theodore Roosevelt was born there on October 27, 1858, and lived in the house with his family until 1872, when the neighborhood began to become more commercial and the family family moved uptown to 57th Street. The original building was demolished in 1916, but re-created with design by Theodate Pope Riddle, opening as a museum in 1923. The Theodore Roosevelt association donated the birthplace to the National Park service in 1963. It is now a museum dedicated to the life and contributions of the 26th President of the United States.

Following the tour, we will head over to Keen’s Steakhouse for a delicious lunch that Teddy Roosevelt might have enjoyed! The steakhouse, which opened it stores in 1865, is famous for its mutton chops as well as its pipe collection. It was common for men to keep their pipes, which were very fragile, at their favorite tavern or Inn The membership roster of Keen’s Pipe Club contained over ninety thousand names, including those of Teddy Roosevelt, Bay, Ruth, will Rogers, J.P. Morgan, general, Douglas, MacArthur and more.
