Our 3nd annual essay contest is open to middle schoolers (grades 6 to 8). Essays due Friday, Dec. 6 by 5 pm. Winners will be announced on Friday, Dec. 15th. Click on the "RSVP" link to let us know you intend to submit and to see essay topic and how to submit (scroll down to "About the event")!

About the event
Our topic for 2024: What makes a house a home?
Open to students in grades 6 to 8.
500 words maximum.
1 winner per grade.
Prize includes gift certificate to Barrett Bookstore, family tour of the Homestead and Mather basket of goodies.
Essays will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Essay demonstrates an understanding of the topic and compelling answer.
- Essay is well written with proper punctuation and grammar.
- Essay shows a personal perspective and interest in the topic.
