About the event
Spies, smugglers and marauding Tories infested the Connecticut shore during the American Revolution. The Rebel cause looked grim as George Washington tried to hold his army together around New York. Steven Waring's father, a staunch Patriot, left to enlist permanently in the Continental Army, leaving Steven to take care of his mother and two younger children. It proved to be no small task. Tories from Long Island cross the Sound in whaleboats, and using a cave as their hideout, plunder the village and seize hostages.
