Maple, ash, tulip poplar, rush seat; 43 ¾" h. x 18 ⅜" w. x 15 ¼" d. < Back “York” Side Chair Second Floor - SW Bedroom Furniture and Hard Furnishings Southwestern Connecticut, 1750-1825. Maple, ash, tulip poplar, rush seat; 43 ¾" h. x 18 ⅜" w. x 15 ¼" d. The turned chair, known in the period as a York chair, has a shaped tulip poplar crest above a solid splat (“fiddle-back) and stay rail. Maple rear posts with elongated balusters, truncated at the bottom, and above smaller balusters. Posts terminate in urn-and-ball finials. Turned front legs with double “sausage” turned front stretchers. Ash double side and a single rear stretcher joins the legs. Condition: All four feet have been ended-out by 2”; finials restored. Mahogany; two: 39 ½" h. x 27 ¼" w. x 23" d.; #105: 43 ½” x 22 ¾” 26 ½”; no. 118: 37 ¼” h. x 24 ⅜” w. x 24” d. < Back Four Upholstered Open Armchairs First Floor - Parlor Furniture and Hard Furnishings Probably England; likely modern in late 18th century style. Mahogany; two: 39 ½" h. x 27 ¼" w. x 23" d.; #105: 43 ½” x 22 ¾” 26 ½”; no. 118: 37 ¼” h. x 24 ⅜” w. x 24” d. In the Chippendale style, with an upholstered straight crest (or serpentine crest for no. 118), over a rectangular back and seat; carved ogee arms with volute handholds; Marlborough legs with H-stretcher. No. 105 in fair condition with repaired leg and loose stretcher; no. 118 has a patched left front leg. Note: Frames were not examined because upholstery was not removed, thus preventing definitive determination of age. Previous Next

(50” open) x 47" d. < Back Gate-Leg Table with Oval Top First Floor - Keeping Room Furniture and Hard Furnishings Connecticut or New York, 1730-1760. Cherry; white pine. 26 ¾" h. x 16" w. (50” open) x 47" d. The oval top over a rectangular frame on four legs with baluster and ring turnings, all joined by turned stretchers in a box plan. Two framed swinging supports or “gates” support a hinged leaf, which joins the fixed center section with tongue-and-groove molded edges. Iron butt hinges replace earlier strap hinges, evident in filled holes in leaves. Stretchers are worn with use marks in appropriate spots. Previous Next
